  • My 9 and 11 year olds know that I will be buying 1/2 of a car, but they have to match it. They have savings accounts at the credit union and they deposit their holiday money and part of their allowance - they like watching it grow. It's only a couple hundred now, but once they start babysitting, mowing lawns in a few years and then get a part time job at 16, it should jump pretty fast.

  • Mines only 9 but I have told him if he can get a full scholarship I will use the money I have saved for college to buy him a car. I had ALOT of trouble in high school and I wasn't on track to graduate. My parents bribed me paying for 2 years of a lease on a new car if I graduated- it worked and I'm now working towards my masters.

  • I tried, we told my son that he could not take drivers training until his grades improved. When he was almost 16 we bought a car to hope to encourage him. When he was 17 we sold it. Currently he'll be 18 in July and still no license.
