how long can my baby keep going like this?

my baby is a month old. he has reflux and while some spitting up is normal, he vomits! i mean seriously vomits. if he eats 4 oz of milk he vomits 3.5 to 4 oz back up. he cant keep anything down. this is day 6, i know he has to be getting something, but now since lastnight around 5 he hasnt peed but 3 times. and he has had no BM. i have taken him to drs and hospitals, but until recently they said that there is nothing wrong with him. today he had a UGI done and they said something doesnt seem right, but they dont know whats wrong. now that hes not peeing much and having no BMs i wonder how much he is getting and how much longer he can go like this. advise plz

  • It good that you didn't give up. Did they give him any medicine for the reflux? I would start there. Make sure someone hears you that he isn't keeping anything down. Good luck

  • Some babies have a condition that causes their stomachs to empty their contents more frequently. My husband's cousin used to projectile vomit frequently. Also, what is brought up is usually not as much as you think-- it just looks like a lot.

Do you have some way to weigh your baby? If not, I would get a baby scale and try weighing him every day. If he's continuing to gain weight, then you're probably ok. But if not, then insist that he be checked out for that blockage, and tell them that your baby is failing to thrive.

in the mean time, would you consider giving him a little formula? The baby might have an allergy to something you're eating. You can try a formula that has more consistent contents, or even soy based formula.

    Good luck!
