Can I still cook steaks if they are not still cold when they were defrosted?

I took some steaks out this morning to thaw and left them on the counter (like I sometimes do to thaw out meat). I went in to put them in the refridgerator and they were already defrosted and they still chilly but not COLD. Can I still cook these? They were frozen when I took them out of the freezer and they were left out for about 4-5 hours.

  • Yes you can cook them.  They actually cook better at room temperature. You really don't want to know what they do to tenderise them.

  • I do that sometimes, when I forget to put stuff in the fridge the night before.
