  • It is a symbol. to be born again by water. Water is like a second birth. But to be born again you have to accept christ into your heart and believe in him. Then you can get baptized. I think it is alittle hard to describe for me.

  • But baptism is not necessary for salvation. It's to show obedience.

  • Water baptism is an experience after salvation to confirm and strengthen your commitment to live a godly life. The baptismal waters represent a burial ground. When you’re buried with Christ in baptism, you are proclaiming to heaven, earth and hell that the old you no longer exists. To be buried with Jesus means that your old self died to sin just as Jesus did when He was made sin for us (Romans 6:3, 6, 10-12). That’s why we are immersed. It’s a picture of burial.

  • Good responses above..the next step of obedience after one is saved (Placed their faith and trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and His finished work on the cross.) As bonn777 says that is why we are immersed..a picture of His Death, Burial and Resurrection. Die to sin...To walk in newness of life. A new life in Christ...A new creature.

  • Baptism is a symbolic joining of Christ in death, burial and renewed life.

Answer by TeeJai at 10:39 PM on Nov. 16, 2008

  • Baptism is something God does for us and not something we do for God. It is a way God gave us to receive His sanctifying grace. So Baptism is the beginning of our supernatural life, it saves us (1 Peter 3:21).

To be baptized means to be committed to Christ. For children their parents can commit them to Christ and raise them in the Christian faith. For adults they can choose the commnittment themselves. Christ did not restrict who could be baptized. His grace is a freely given gift to us.

  • It means repenting your sins to God. Then taking the steps to have yourself washed clean of those sins, and dedicating yourself to God to live as close to God as you possibly can.

  • I was taught that baptism means you are forgiven of all your sins. If you are an adult, you must accept Christ as your personal savior. However, I grew up around infant baptisms and in those cases the parents and godparents promise to raise the child knowing the Christian faith. And then later on a confirmation takes place where the child accepts Christ.
