Do you have a Bengal or Toyger?

I'm looking at and reading what I can about these cats but I thought I'd ask for some first hand feedback. I am interested in adopting one instead of buying from a breeder.

  • I highly discourage getting one. They may be bred with domestic cats but they're still way too wild. The natural hunting and attacking instincts have not been bred out to a companionable extent. They are beautiful cats but they are not yet suitable for human companionship. I've done a great deal of research with things like this since I originally wanted to run a wild cat sanctuary. They are cute when they're small but quickly become too difficult to handle. It will take many more generations of breeding the tamer kittens until they become suitable as human companions.

  • I use to have a Desert Links- kinda in the Bengal Family- we got him at a Exotic Animal Show- He actually was a Great Cat after we had All of his Claws removed- we had to b/c when he was only about 10 weeks old he got scared & clawed my whole arm- it was like puncture wounds- Mama Stuart is right, they are much wilder than a domestic cat- Some states they are even against the law & alot of vets will not treat them- they don't do well with other animals either- Good Luck:)

  • Interesting! I've never heard of that before....but if they have attacking tendencies I'd skip it....
