if you answer a question anonymously and get voted down, you lose points for that vote down but you dont gain any for getting vote ups? does anyone know? i find that a little weird. and if you answer with your screen name you dont lose points for vote downs.

  • Well most of the anonymous make snide hateful remarks. If you don' want to lose points don't post anonymous and same with if you want to gain points.

  • I would guess it's to try and stop people from going anon just to be nasty.... but you would also have to care about the points to make it stop you.

  • i dont care about the point

Then why are you making a post about losing points? If you don't care about the points then it shouldnt be a big deal for you to lose them.

  • I know, we can start a new group. A group specifically for anonymouses, where no body knows nobody! And you never sign your real name ti anything!

  • did not know this 'rule'
thought all vote down lose points
do not get on here for points
do not care if i lose them
did not know this, does not make much sense
but either does a lot of the whole points/credits stuff

  • because they are trying to discourage people from being nasty, so anon's lose points, but if you want credit for giving a good answer--don't go anon.

  • I'm not saying it's okay to be nasty ever but I was always taught if you have something to say you say it to them and you take whatever you get back. If you're too afraid to say it and take responsibility you should keep your mouth shut. I hate it when ppl hit anonymous to be a jerk because they're cowards.

  • Originally, up and down votes were set up differently. Instead of an up button and a down button, you had one number, with a + on one side and a - on the other. If you started at 0, 2 people voted down, and 3 people voted up, you didn't see 3 and 2, you saw 1. That's the system they had in mind when they set up the point system, and you didn't lose points until you hit -1 (the idea being if 4 people voted up and someone voted it down, you'd still be at 3). If you go back to the very early days of the PBA group where they were hashing this all out as they went along, you'll see all the discussions about how that system should work. Originally, everyone lost points if they hit -1, and it was abused out of the gate. When they saw that, they took away the penalties for answers by name, and left the anon rules unchanged. They weren't as "mean" when they were tempered with everyone else losing points too.
