How do you remove old vinyl from floor to prepare to lay ceramic tile.

There must be a secret that would make this easier.

  • We used a tile scrapper and a heat gun.

  • When we had our vinyl removed to put in wood flooring the contractor had a long handled, wide, scraper that he could use standing up. That way he could get his entire body strength beind it if necessary.

  • We have been using a roofing rake. It looks like a long handled scraper.

    One thing to keep in mind is that the floor will be sticky and you will have to lay down flooring on top to get the grout to adhere. We are getting around this by sprinkling powdered concrete over the top and they make a special grout that can be layed on top of it so no extra steps and extra materials needed.
