Does pumping and nursing have the same effect?

I know, nutrition wise, it's the same. But do they both burn the same amount of calories?

  • I plan on pumping all I can. So whatever is produced will be used. I have a manual and automatic pump.

  • Yes, they should burn the same amount of calories, but that does not necessarily mean that you will lose a lot of weight from it. Some people do, but others.... like me.... don't lose weight easily while nursing and pumping. Good Luck though.

  • If you produce the same amount, it's got to be close. Pumping, you aren't holding a baby, but nursing, you are dealing with a pump, so those active calories may be similar.
