How do I stop breastfeeding my 16 month old daughter?

  • Are you in a hurry to stop? I think the best way is this: don't offer, don't refuse. If the baby asks for it, then give it, but don't offer if she's not asking. That way, she'll eventually give it up and won't be upset when it's gone. My daughter is almost 16 months old and only asks for it maybe 1-2 times a day now.

  • For tooth development reasons, I recommend offering it only at nap time or bed time. Offer the cup. Then, gradually limit that time. Children adapt to change. She will get it.
