  • My son was about 8 or so months. I would just go by whether they can have it in their mouth and swallow without gagging. At first I break them in half and go from there.

  • We started once they were doing pretty well with babyfood and cereal that wasn't completely runny. I think it was around 8 or 9 months.

  • Cheerios with my son probably about 6-8 months. When ever he was able to gum them up without choking. Puffs weren't around when he was little. We were known as Cheerio at our local mall. I'd stick him in the stroller, give him a tray full of cheerios and I'd go walking around before the shops opened. He'd toss them on the floor at random intervals.

Puffs with my daughter at 4-6 months, whenever she could slobber on them and get them into her mouth on her own.

  • I'm pretty sure DD was about 7 or 8 months. I know it was after she had gotten really good at eating stage 2 baby foods and was able to eat stage 3, and she was eating soft things from our plates also. She had the puff things and Cheerios.

  • Don't remember with all of my kids. My youngest is almost 7 months and has been eating puffs for about a week now. We haven't tried cheerios but he had some other stuff yesterday at the buffet. I cut up some soft green beans, bananas and squash and he spit it all out after mushing it up. He doesn't like the texture. At least he doesn't gag on it like my oldest did at that age (until she was around 18 months she couldn't eat anything chunky). He eats baby food and soft table foods just fine, just chunky stuff he doesn't like. Shrug.
You never know if they are ready unless you try. My older son was chowing down on cheerios at 6 months which was recommended by his pediatrician at the time.
