What is the point of the "DD, DS, DH" crap?

Am I the only one who doesn't use the abbreviations? I don't understand the need to shorten "son" to "DS", or any of the others, when talking about people in a post. I find it annoying to read. Besides, it makes you have the extra work of capitalizing and really, who calls their children "dear son" or "dear daughter"? If there needs to be an abbreviation, why not just do "S" and "D" and "H" for husband? I can understand MIL or SIL, simply because the terms are long and require hyphens...but for all the others, I find it silly.

Am I the only one?

  • It is silly, it's like text-speak. Even adults are dumbing themselves down.

  • I don't shorten either, by the way ~ I use to think DH meant "Dick Head!"

  • No, you are NOT the only one that finds them silly or annoying. I think I spend half my time on here trying to translate LO, TTC, and other pointless abbreviations.

  • I agree. Some of the terms I can understand but the short ones...there is no point. But, i guess we have to deal. LoL

  • Why use any abbreviations at all? Its just a way to identify your family without using names and a quick way to do it.

How often do you call them son or daughter?

Doesn't bother me at all and I do it.

Never sprained my pinkie from hitting the shift key though. =D

  • I don't use it anywhere but in Answers. But because of the character limit it makes things a bit easier and it helps me fit everything in one box.
