How many times a day should my 10 month old nurse?

my daughter is only nursing 3 times a day and lately only wants to nurse 2 times a day. she gets alot in each nursing session cuz she pretty much chugs it. is it ok if she only nurses 2 times? she eats solid foods 3 times a day and has 4 oz of juice and finger foods on demand

  • Since she's eating solid food she isn't going to want to nurse as much. My kids were just starting solid foods at that age, so they nursed more. But solids digest slower than milk does, so she'll be full longer with those. As long as she doesn't want more I wouldn't worry.

  • I think she should be nursing a little more. Do you always nurse before solids? In the first year, always nurse before offering solids. If you try that, you might find her nursing a bit more. 2-3 times a day doesn't seem like enough to me, if you were bottle feeding, you'd expect her to have more then 2-3 bottles a day, right?

  • Mine were all still nursing 5 times/day at that age. Three times at meals and 2 times in between meals for "snacks" Since breastmilk/formula is supposed to still be their main source of nutrition, she needs more breastmilk less solids. IMO
