Anyone actually get money back intaxes with medical???

With our son getting diagnoised with nocturnal seizures and all the testing we did this year it seemed like we paid through the nose...we were $7 short of reaching that limit and DH plugged it in only to find we would have gotten only another $16 back...frustrating!

  • talk to someone like at a tax place cause everything paid out of pocket can be taken off I think. Just keep checking cause I know we got more than that back. Also sometimes they might let you take gas off for driving back and forth if alot. So do call someone to ask.

  • We claim medical expenses every year - you are aware that you have to meet a certain threshold and even then, only the amount ABOVE the threshold is actually applied? Make sure you include the following in your numbers: any and all out-of-pocket (non-reimburseable) expenses, medical and dental premiums you pay, and keep track of mileage to and from each and every appointment. And of course, you can only claim medical expenses if you itemize.

  • You'll only get money back on write-offs if you have enough to go over the standard $10,000 deduction that the IRS already gives you.

  • Anon and UpShe are right. I'm so sorry to hear about all your medical expenses. That must be stressful!
