Does anyone else have a 2 vessel cord?

I was told my baby had a 2 vessel cord one vein and one artery, I was wandering if anyone else has or has had this. Just wandering what it means or causes.

  • Not sure what causes it but most cords have 3 vessels (1 artery & 2 veins, or visa versa). I can't remember exactly. There is a chance that blood flow could be less since there is a missing vessel. Talk to your OB, they will have all the info you need on this. Best Wishes :)

  • It is not terribly uncommon & is sometimes assoc. w/ congenital defects; ask you OB or the Ped.

  • Yep i have a 2 vessel cord and high risk because of it. As long as your baby has a cord going in and out of him your fine. You need a 2 vessels atleast one to put good stuff in his body and the 2nd to take the bad stuff out. In some cases you can have a smaller baby and may have to have him early but thats like the worse case. You will get alot of ultrasounds to check his size and his heart cuz there is a risk of heart problems. And once you hit like 30 weeks or 32 weeks you have to go to the hospital twice a week 2 stress tests and 1 fluid test. Its not that bad just a pain as long as he is gaining weight you shouldn't worry. Good luck!!
