  • Hey, if anyone is interested in the REAL news from Egypt, here are a few tidbits.
The Muslim Brotherhood has not put anyone forth as a leader and continues to say they will not. Mubarack's Swiss bank accounts have been frozen because they suspect the money was come by illegally. The Egyptian Military leaders are saying they are abiding by all current peace treaties. the Attorney General of Egypt is gathering evidence of corruption to prosecute people in court. The remaining Ministers and Judges are declaring the current constitution void and are drafting a new one to present to the people for a vote.

All in all, a lot of exciting news for the Egyptian people.

  • Mubarak in power since Anwar Sadat was assassinated thirty years ago. Sadat signed peace accords with Israel before assassination. Mubarak was a secular dictator that encouraged the army with rewards and his close associates with favors. Considered a moderate dictator but brutal at times. Considered a Mid East friend by the U.S. and Israel and has joint interests in keeping peace with Israel and the Suez canal operating for a continuous flow of oil and stable gas prices in the U.S. 150 mile border with Israel. People rose up and demanded his resignation. Muslim/socialist organizers fomented the uprising and hope democratic elections will put the Muslim Brotherhood in to power and further the Muslim goal of a caliphate...like the same goals of the theocracy in Iran. Muslim Brotherhood has al gaeda ties and wants Israel eliminated.

  • stacymomof2...You are dead wrong. This was not a spontaneous uprising of the masses. It was pointedly organized by Muslim extremists in coordination with socialists both inside and outside Egypt. A notorious Google ex-exec socialist/Muslim was one of the spear heads. Even the lowly New York Times front paged this "fact" yesterday. The same tactic is now fomenting in other Middle Eastern countries including Jordan.

Democratic elections are indeed coming and the outcome will be a Muslim theocracy along the lines of Iran and then Israel will be forced to proceed and it will not be pretty. 80% of the Egyptian population (18 million) are rural poor and susceptible to socialist propaganda propelled by the Muslim Brotherhood. This is another example of radical socialist organizers latching on to Muslim extremist agendas to subjugate the poorest of the poor. An epic tragedy in the making.

  • as far as I know their president/dictator gave up power yesterday, so they finally got him out of office. I haven't had the news on yet today though so something new could've come about.

    _______________
This is where annabarred gets off track. The uprising is about all the people, not just "Muslims" or "Socialists". They are trying to reform their government to be more responsive and democratic. They have succeeded in demanding Mubarack's resignation, leaving a few remaining ministers and the Military in charge during a transitional period in which the people will vote on a new constitution, and then hold elections.
