John 5: 28-29

Does this imply we don't go to Heaven directly after mortal death?

28."Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice
29.and come out--those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned.

  • no. to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. the bible says when Christ returns.. the dead in Christ will rise first and we which remain will meet Him in the air. Our spirits will already be in His presence.

  • well like the story of the rich man and the poor man...the poor man ended up in Abraham's bosom (sp?) and the rich man ended up in the fire...so i think what it is, is God is getting Heaven ready for when He comes, so the people that pass are in a place that closely resembles heaven, but isn't the real thing.

  • no there will be a resurrection of righteous to the earth. the bible is full of scriptures regarding that. to imply otherwise is to imply SATAN WON -- he defeated God's original purpose for the earth. God didn't create Adam to have him live in heaven. Why would God change his mind for Satan??

  • it means that we go to either spiritual paradise or spiritual prison depending on how bad or good you are. there is a particular name for it but i forget. at least that is what mormons believe. it's before judgment day.
