I am allergic to mushrooms and I would like to make beef stroganoff, what can I use as a substitute

  • Just don't put mushrooms in it. I make my stroganoff with beef, the sour cream sauce, garlic, salt and pepper. That's it. No beef bullion, no mushrooms. And we serve it over either white rice or egg noodles.

  • I never add mushrooms. I'm also allergic to them and so I just leave them out and no one has ever noticed the difference. I make mine similar to the poster above me, but I also add a little tiny bit of diced onion to add a little more flavor.

  • Agree, just skip the mushrooms. I love them but dh hates them so I skip them too. I just use beef gravy, sour cream, worchescher (I know that's spelled wrong lol) stew meat and egg noodles.

  • DH & DS both dislike mushrooms, so I just leave them out when I make it and it's still good. I suppose if you really wanted to substitute something for the mushrooms, you could use a veggie of some kind, like maybe carrot medallions or broccoli.

  • Eggplant would offer a similar texture and would probably be pretty tasty in stroganoff too.

  • Just leave the mushrooms out. I am also allergic to the nasty little things and I just avoid mushroom soups & all other shrooms, and make the recipe shroom-less.
