  • I taught myself. When I was a teen and my parents tried to teach me, I was uninterested. Then when I got married, we ate out a lot. When I my oldest was about three, I started teaching myself. I watched a lot of food network and just drove right in and tried a million different things.
I am now a really good cook, but my poor husband and oldest son were served many really bad meals.

  • I taught myself. My mom aught me some basics, but when I got out on my own I bought cookbooks and started experimenting. I've self-taught several cuisines; but I'm the best at French and Italian. I love to cook, I'd go to culinary school if I had the time.

  • A combination of my mom, my grandma, and a lot of it I taught myself from cookbooks etc.

  • My grandma tried. My mom never really cooked since she was a single mom most of the time (til I was a teen) so the microwave and toaster were my best friends. My first bf also taught me how to cook basic stuff like mac n cheese, pizza, spaghetti etc.

  • It was a combination of my grandmother and myself. My mother was/is a lousy cook. That just isn't one of her talents. And my grandma cooked well, but she cooked country food, and I don't cook country food a lot, but at least I got the basics from Grandma.

  • I grew up watching my mom cook, but wasn't really allowed to help. My grandma let me help her with some stuff when I stayed at her house (if it weren't for her I wouldn't know how to make french toast!). But I'm mostly self-taught. I've asked my MIL & SIL a fair amount of questions over the years, but now I'm at the point where my mom asks me for cooking help, and even MIL asks my advice once in a while.
