So my 16 weeker went from being a happy baby to extra cranky in the past week; any advice?

he's had what some doctors say is an issue with pooping. he only goes once every 7-9 days by himself unless he seems really irritable, then i give him a glycerin supposatory. he's just getting over some thrush that he got from being on antibiotics (he's on two meds for that) and now i think he's teething.

he just seems extra cranky lately, even though he's over the thrush and the earache. he doesn't want to be put down and isn't "talking as much as he was prior to all of his little ailments.

i just want my little guy to be happy. we're going to see a specialist about his pooping issue. the good news about that is when he does poop it's you standard breastfed baby yellow mush. so it doesn't seem that he's constipated.

anyone have any advice for a new mom?? i'm loosing sleep worrying about my littleman. all my friends are either way past the baby stage or haven't had kids yet, so advice is hard to find. except of course from random people that can't help themselves on giving it on anything!

thanks for listening to me vent, this is the first time i've went online with my baby problems. hope all is well out there in the world of cafemom!

  • He's probably rattled by the ailments and doesn't wanna be put down because he's confortable in your arms. Mami makes everything better. Have you been giving his water for the pooping? It might help him to go if he gets some water in his system, and your might not need the suppositories. Or even a little prune juice.

  • if he is solely breast fed and eats regularly, then he has no pooping issues. do not see a dr. for that. 7-9 days is your baby's norm. you can bicycle his legs and do tummy massage, if you think that he is in pain. if he has been on an antibiotic, then give him a probiotic. have you looked at the site kellymom? great great breastfeeding information there!
i wonder about your baby's ear infection. was a culture done before your baby was given an antibiotic? many ear infections are viral, so antibiotics will only weaken your baby's immune system by eliminating good bacteria, and by giving the kidney extra work. shirley's wellness cafe is a great site for ear infection information.
you do not need to give your baby suppositories.
he is probably teething right now. that can be very hard on some babies.
    good luck mama!!!
