Question

A co-worker and I was having a conversation one night. She wanted to know why the president couldn't just print money and pay the nation debt off. I told her there was a question about this some months ago. I couldn't remember the answer can you please let us know why this cannot be done?

  • It would completely devalue our dollar. The President doesn't actually print the money anyhow.

  • The money would be worthless. That is what has been happening to the American dollar.

  • B/c that's like writing a check you know will bounce. There has to be actual worth/funds to back it up.

  • That would cause CRAZY inflation. We'd be Zimbabwe where they pay $20,000 for a loaf of bread.

  • It devalues the current value of the money. If we print twice as much money, each dollar becomes worth 50 cents. Nothing is accomplished by doing this. You can google it to find out more
