Most popular baby names by year. was your baby's name on it?

did you choose your childs name based on popularity, or originality? not that i am judging either, this is simply a JFF question.

my oldest was born in 2006. i picked her name - Lily - randomly out of my head and i had never personally met or heard of many Lily's before that. of course, i went to work shortly after she was born and had a co-worker named Lilly, an acquantence named her kid Lilly, and i think last year it was one of the most popular names of 2010. so much for originality for her LOL! according to the website im looking at, it was ranked 39th most popular name in 2006. in 2010, it ranked 7th!

my other daughters names - Savannah (2008) and Taylor (2010) both of their names were in the 30s or lower in the years they were born and they are still lower on the popularity chart. i am hearing Savannah more & more these days though, im wondering what it will rank next year!

  • My son Logan (2009) was #5? or #6- although I personally dont know any other Logans.
The next baby will be Sydney or Bennett. Sydney is in the 50s and Bennett wasnt on the list last time I looked.

  • lily and alexis are both very common in the south. i have a neice named lily and a cousin alexis. my son has 2 alexis's in his k class right now. i think it just depends on what part of the country you live in

  • Yep DS's name is on there, but I didn't pick it because it's popular. It's just a family name. Named after his dad, middle name from his great grandpa.
