Why is she doing this?

My 3 yr old won't pee. She has been drinking a lot of liquids today and hasn't peed herself but won't go to the bathroom. I've made her sit on the toilet a few times already but she goes nuts. Why is she holding it? Have you dealt with this before? Also she is sick and this is the first time she's been sick since she has been potty trained (only been trained a little over a month) Do you think her being sick is the reason? She is getting plenty of liquids.

  • She may have a UTI . . . very VERY common in little girls that age. Keep an eye on her and take her to the doc or urgent care if she seems like she is in pain while peeing.

  • Is she having any pain?? Could be a urinary infection. Holding it can cause problems in children.

  • Ask her if she wants to sit on the big potty. Try to explain to her that if she doesn't go potty pretty soon it might hurt her later. With women, listening to running water makes them need to pee. Not sure about little girls, it's been a long time for me. Hands in warm water might make her need to go, also. Have her wash her hands, see if that works.

  • She isn't complaining about pain while peeing. Then again she doesn't talk very much so it may hurt and she doesn't say anything.
