What kinds of things are you doing with your kids for winter recess?

Have any fun yet not expensive ideas that your school age children would like to do on winter break? Aside from crafts, do you go anywhere or do anything special?

  • Well our winter break is over and it looks like Spring is finally coming around. When it was winter break and snow days we would do alot around the house mostly. We would rent movies if we could get out, and get popcorn and hot chocolate and have a movie marathon. For instance we might watch Back to the Future (all parts) in one day. We would go outside and play in the snow. We would go to the movies and watch new stuff that just came out. Sometimes we went to friends houses or they came to ours. Everything was pretty much free.

  • Our winter break has been cut down to 2 days because of all the snow but we are probably going to go to a museum and to the beach to feed the birds and to the park if the weather is good and playdates at friends.:)

  • Winter break was 2 weeks around Christmas for us. They don't have another break until spring (first week of April for us). We don't do anything special over breaks. The kids are still responsible for entertaining themselves like any other day. They have toys, friends, the TV, games, puzzles, coloring, playing outside (if it's not raining...we don't get snow here). My husband works and I don't have a car so we can't go any where. They find plenty to do on their own.
Hopefully it will be nice over spring break because I'd like to take them to the zoo (the first time at our new zoo since we've moved). April 5th is my youngest dd's 5th birthday and she'd love to spend the day at the zoo.
