what is the best free site to do taxes online myself? are they really free? or do go through the whole thing just for them to ask for a credit card number? lol thanks

  • I used to use taxact, and yes it's free. At the end it will ask for 14.95 to do your state. No need. You can do it for free on your state government page.

  • taxact and turbo tax are both free, you can mail your state if you don't wanna pay the state feee

  • go to irs.gov, click on free tax returns, and follow the directions. Yes, they are free services if you meet the criteria

  • Turbo tax screwed a few people this year by not transmitting the account numbers for their direct deposits...and it does cost for state! But they have a pretty good program! Taxact is free!
