How can I get my 2 year old to sleep in his own bed by himself?

He has co-slept since birth and is still nursing (both make it hard to get him to sleep in his bed). He moves SO much at night we are not getting sleep anymore. Any sugestions?

  • You have to set a date and just explain to him that night that from now on he is going to sleep in his big boy bed. Go out and let him pick out a stuffed animal or some kind off sleep friend for him to go to bed with. Then you just have to put him in his own bed, leave the room and when he gets up. Bring him back into his own bed again. Only explain the first time he gets up that he sleeps in his big boy bed and then after that every time he gets up you don't say a word and just bring him back to his room and leave again. Its a battle off wills.........don't give in before him or you'll loose forever.

  • i did the same thing im expecting in august and i wanted him to start sleepin in the big boy bed and of course they are gonna cry, but u keep putting them back in the bed. and get a routine for them to do before they go to bed. like i give my son a bath, rub him with lotion. put him in his bed cover him with his blanket, read him a book and let him lay there until he goes to sleep, but for a while i just had to let him cry in his room until he went to sleep because he would get out of his bed to many times like it was a joke and then it got to the point where he would cry but then he would get back in his bed on his own and go to sleep and now he just lays there till he falls asleep, so just give it time. it takes a while.
