Union busting??

It seems that our city mayor is going to the state capital and wants a bill of some kind, can't remember the name. Anyway, he wsants to be able to force our local city unions like the police and fire to bend to his will so to speak. I think he wants to be able to tell the union leaders that they need to cut wages, and give more demotions., The fire dept employees already has had numerous demotions, 2 fire houses have been shut down. The mayor can't lay off any firemen because of an agreement he made with the fed goverenment, and if he violates that, he will have to pay back a few million dollars. Does anyone know what will happen?? Has anyone experianced anything like this?

  • Republicans in multiple states are trying to dismantle unions and take away the people's right to collectively bargain

They aren't trying to negotiate pay or paying into benefits, they are trying to eliminate collective bargaining all tofether.

  • Unions were a good idea at one poit but have now accumulated so much power they are being stupid! Take those teachers in WI. If I were the gov I would walk out there and say ok...you win. You dont have to pay (a very small part) of your ins and pension. Now, YOU, YOU, YOU, YOU, and YOU (until there are enough to match the needed budget cuts) here are your pink slips. Now we are on our way. THERE IS NO DAMN MONEY. Thank you no go home you won :) And now there will be MORE over crowding in the classrooms for the teachers who are left to deal with! Good Job. The UNION states are going BROKE. They are TOO DAMN SELFISH. SOO flippin glad we live in a right to work state!!

the teachers aren't striking because they are being asked to pay anything. they are striking because the bill would strip their right to collectively bargain. This gov had a surplus, and with tax breaks and soending HE CAUSED teh state's financial issues in a VERY SHORT period...not he is crying broke,,,,they aren't....its an excuse to strip workers rights away

I hope they listen to THEIR people...it is OBVIOUS they DONT WANT THIS

  • The ISSUE is UNion power. the bill being passed inclkueds a clause allowing people to CHOOSE if they want to be in the union. Follow the money. The Unions do NOT want to lose the power.

They pay a large chunk of each pay check to dues and dont get a heck of a lot back BUT if the union says JUMP they have to say HOW HIGH? My hubby donesnt work union. Has gotten raises and benefits based on his merit as an employee. He is a damn good worker and they dont want to lose him.

  • They should get rid of collective bargaining, why should the worse employee make as much as the best employee.

  • The old extremist right-wing idea of attack unions . i don't see our petty conservatives complaining about bankers' massive bonuses and the decline in real incomes suffered by millions of Americans while the rich continue to get richer . Bash the poor and the unions, enrich the rich . The Brave New World .
