Are prunes and plums the same thing

rasins are dried grapes.
are prunes dried plums?
or are prunes and plumbs comepletly different things?

  • Sure is, prunes are dried plums. It's amazing how the drying process can turn an awesome fruit like a plum into a horrible thing like a prune.

  • Prunes can be dried plums, but there is a fresh plum that is marketed as a prune...it is small and oval shaped.....it is also the plum that is used to make prune juice...

  • yes and they actully started marketing prunes as dried plums to up sales. dont know if it worked tho i think prunes just kinda stuck after so many years of them being called that. i actully like prunes but i cant stand the juice.

  • Plum is a fruit, plumb means to something, usually water or to square off something, ex. the builder had to make sure the walls were plumb before he installed the cabinets. Prunes are dried plums.
