What is a good bedtime for a 10 year old?

My step son is 10 and in 5th grade now. He has to get up between 6:30 and 7am to get ready and get the bus by 8am. What time do your 5th graders go to bed?

  • If he goes to bed at 8:30-9 and then gets up at 6:30-7 that is 10 hours of sleep and I think is about where children should be until puberty. I may be wrong here, but that is what I think I read somewhere.

  • 9pm is good, but I really think it depends on the child. My daughter could get away with 8 hours sleep on the other hand my son needs more like 12 hours sleep.

  • I have an 11-year-old 5th grader (as well as 5 other younger ones) who all get up at 6:30am to catch the bus at 7:15am. I have them start getting ready for bed at 8:00 and in bed by 9:00 at the latest.

  • My girls go to bed for 9:00pm on a school night. If they want to want a movie friday or saturday night I will let them stay up. Otherwise they call there grandmother and have her tape it for them cause we do not have a vcr.
