Stuck at the reading level

My 6 years old daughter seem to be stuck at the reading level L (20-24) for several months now. These books are moderately hard to her in comprehension, easy in fluency and a bit too long. Yet she does not enjoy simpler books of level K or J any more. I wonder how to take her further in reading?

  • I would relax and let her take the lead, as long as she is reading then she will improve.

  • Try reading together and then ask her open ended questions about the story. Also help with any words she may not understand.

  • She is reading 1-2 books, sometimes daily, sometimes she does not. I felt that she skipped extremely fast every other level, but this one seem like she hit her highest possible level so far...I just feel maybe I do not sit with her enough...

  • I have always read books with my kids at night. When I read with my daughter, I read a page and then she reads a page. After each chapter we stop and I have her tell me what just happened. The more she reads, the better she will get! Just make sure that you focus on fluency AND comprehension!

  • Give it time. The more she is read and read to the better she will get. Once my dd took off, she really took off.
