Attention Quilters! What are your MUST HAVE tools for quilting?

I am a new quilter and want to make sure I have a good tool box, so to speak. Thanks for your help!

  • Tools You MUST HAVE:

    * rotary cutter
    * self-healing cutting mat
    * long, clear, quilter's ruler
    * fabric marker or pencil with water or air soluble marking (for easy line removal)

    You might also want"

    + large quilters safety pins (for pin-basting)
    + adhesive quilt basting spray
    + a 'walking foot' for your sewing machine (if you are going to machine quilt)
    + T-pins for securing your finished quilt during blocking
    + glass-head quilting pins, so your iron doesn't melt the heads (I use these in my garment sewing too)
    + a special foot for your machine that will guide your fabric under the needle with consistent 1/4" seam allowance. (OR -you can use a short stack of post-it notes to butt your fabric against, keeping the seam allowances consistent.)

    GL with your first quilt! :-)

  • Yay! I already have most of these things already :) except the quilt basting spray. I have the walking foot for the machine, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to hand quilt- it's a bit of a family tradition, if you will. lol
