How old would your child have to be to get a laptop?

My son is 5 and very good on our computer.  My hub and I decided that next year he is going to get a laptop to play his games on his own computer.  I can't believe how many educational games are out there!  Oh, and no he won't have the internet.

  • Desk top - cheaper, easier to upgrade, get more for your money, less chance they can get dropped and broken.

  • Not til they go off to college. The family desk top is good enough for my kids and the shared laptop.

  • My kids have their own desktop that they share. They won't be getting laptops until at least 13. Several of their friends have or have had them and I've seen/heard of too many of them being broken because kids aren't careful with them.

  • desktops have more power for certain games and are easier to upgrade. I have nothing against a young child having their own computer, but I don't agree with the laptop either.

  • my grandkids have a PC that is just for their use. It does have internet but they can't log on without a password. Their school has a reading program they use online. My 8 yr old GD keyboards 30 wpm. Laptops are too fragile for kids in our opinion. Plus a dsesktop is so much simpler to upgrade.

  • Simplicity, why did you choose a desk top instead of a lap top?
