How much tip?

I'm getting a 1/2 hour massage later today. How much tip to give? I think the listed price is $40 for the 1/2 hour, I have a gift certificate.

  • If the service is good then give 15% - 20%, so that would be $6.00 to $8.00. A $10 bill would be very generous. Have your small bills ready so you don't have to ask for change if you stay under $10

  • well wait and see how good it is. thats how I base it on. my first ever massage was not good! the man (which weirded me out) had braids with beads at the ends of the braids and they kept clinking and it drove me insane! his tip was only $5, the next was better, still a bit uncomfortable but I gave her a $10. Those are the only 2 I have ever had, and I might be way undertipping them, but I'm not sure.

  • I suggest doing a google search (or other search engine) for tipping etiquette. You should get a good idea of what is appropriate for all kinds of service industry tipping.

  • I would go with the 10% to 15% of that actual price, depending on how well done it was. If she did an awesome job I would give her probably $10. For ok alright job maybe $5. I wouldnt give a 20 tip for 30 min work. Most people dont even make half of that money in an hour. But thats for you to decide its just my opinion.

  • I always give at least 20% which would be $8.00, so I would probably give 10.00.

  • "For me, especially since its a gift certificate and you are not putting any money out for the actual massage, I would do a $20 tip. But, I work as a caterer and know what tips mean. Enjoy! "

......The gift certificate is still money for the services why should the tip be more based on the method of payment?

    Thats a 50% tip!! for a 1/2 hr massage.

the 15%..$6 is more logically and would probably round it to a $10 (to avoid singles) if the overall service was really good.
