What do you do?

Do you stop all extra-curricular activities if you kid is getting D, D- and F'on papers, tests, etc till they improve?

  • Yes. He has to earn the right to do fun things, whether it's at school or otherwise.. They won't let him participate at them at school if he has 2 D's of 1 F anyway.

  • Personally, I would. My children know anything under a B is not acceptable. They lose everything when they don't have good grades, although we do allow for one C but they go into tutoring for that subject after that. I pulled my son from band because he brought home a D, called the school and told them "he is not participating in anything until his grades come up" Needless to say within a week his grades were up, and it showed the teachers and staff that I'm a parent who cares about their education. I now get little letters sent home about how well they do or don't do on big tests.

  • Teens needs to learn how to balance school work and extra curriculars. I would cut out social activities for grades under B, not school sponsored activities.
