What should i foucus on?

my son will start prek 3 in aug, but i want to get him prepaired for a classroom type enviornment. he is wayy to hyper right now to go on a "visit" to the classroom and would throw a fit when we would leave because he wants to go to school. i am going to set aside an hour a day, starting in march, to help prepair him. what should i teach him during this time? he can reconize numbers 1-10, almost every letter, colors and shapes.

  • Focus on assuring him you will come back to pick him up, and explain how much fun and learning he is going to do, emphasize on being a big boy!

  • If it is preschool there is really no need to prepare him. It is mostly for socialization, to get used to groups, and taking directions from the teacher. When the time gets closer and he is enrolled they usually plan days to visit. GL

  • WHy not try a half-day pre-school once or twice a week now -- or maybe try a half-day camp this summer? We start pre-k this Aug as well, but my DD goes to pre-school now -- It was very hard at first -- all the crying -- but then I wiped MY EYES and sucked it up:-) Don't worry mom, he will be just fine:-)

  • i know i dont have to teach him anything but i am a sahm. its part of the job description in imho that teaching is part of it. and right now we are waiting until aug becaue the headstart programs are free and my hubby got laid off recently, even before then we were considered a low income family and just starting to slowly get off pa.

  • Yes, I agree, and he will learn countless things by being involved in what you are doing, constantly talking with you, and being read to often.

  • They have workbooks, many are just a dollar or two that do preschool and pre-k type activities. It will give you an idea what kids are taught at that age so you can not only do the workbook but reinforce it with other things. Kids at this age do a great deal with their hands, so coloring and play dough are learning not just fun things. At this point playing really is learning so if you are spending time interacting with your child this is teaching.
