What do you put in your beef stew besides beef?

its usually just carrots, potatoes, mushrooms but I had some squash so I threw that in, not too bad. Hubby whines about it though. Do you add any interesting veggies or different seasonings other then the norm? and I use a combination of beef stock and vegetable stock with a little red wine as well.

  • I've only made it a couple of times because I can't make it like my mom used to. She put in potatoes, green beans, carrots, onions, and corn. I remember we used to eat it with corn bread....

  • Usual potatoes, carrots, celery, and sometimes corn.

I miss it when it was cowboy stew where I could add green beans, but hubby and the kids weren't crazy about it...so with them, even corn was a stretch.

  • In the winter I add things like parsnips or turnips, sometimes cubed winter squash. It just changes it up. I sometimes add pearl barley too.

  • I use some beef stew seasoning and I add in some carrots, potatoes and maybe an onion. I am picky so I don't like all that other stuff in it lol
