How do I know what vegetable planting zone I'm in?

I'm in Central Texas.

Also when can I start my tomatoes and blackberries outside instead of inside?

  • Go to Michigan Bulb Co, or Gurney's. You can input your zip code and it will tell you what zone you are. It also tells you optimum planting/shipping time for their products. I googled 'temperature when I can plant' the other day and it gave a ground temp at night where it is now ok and won't kill them. I forget what it was, around 50 I think. You can try something similar and see what it says.

  • The best way if you don't have a gardening book would be to call your local nursery. They're very helpful and have all that info.
