Have any of you been to Disneyland or world, did you do it on the CHEAP?

We are planning to take DS to disney, I have been to both, but it has been a long while, I would like to know what park you prefer, we are in the middle of the country so airfare is about the same to either place, did you get any good deals, any good place to stay? How much total did your trip cost,, if we go to FL we could drive and visit relatives on the way, but don't want to take to much time getting there! Thanks for your help!

  • Here are my tricks, stay off property in a decent but not fancy hotel, Eat a huge breakfast before the park. Have a mid morning snack, but don't do a real lunch until 2 pm. Lines are shorter at the rides during lunch at at the restaurants mid afternoon. Eat off property as much as possible. If you can pick up McD onyour way back to your hotel you will save a bundle.  Start at the back of the park first thing in the morning.  We targeted Space Mountain as soon as they opened the gates and worked our way around the back of the park before the crowds got there.  I think we made it to Pirates of the Caribbean before we had any serious waiting time.  Save the shows for the hot part of the day.  Use the fast pass thing.

  • we've only ever done disney world.
First, go during an off time of year. Hotels will be cheaper and you will get more out of the parks bc the lines will be shorter. The only thing is that during off times is when they refurbish rides so you may not get on all the rides you want. (but they don't close EVERYTHING down)
we always stay on property bc that eliminates the need for a rental car. We just go between all 4 parks and downtown disney; there's plenty to do.
We priced out a 5 day vacation down there, on property at a middle of the line resort (not value, not delux, I forget what type of room they are called. Resorts like Cornonado, Carribean Beach...) for three of us, including park hopper and meal plan, airfare, and even a car rental. Cost was about $3,000.

  • DisneyWorld hands down. Animal Kingdom is awesome too. Staying on site is great and the meal plans are good too. So much less stress! When we went last time they offered the meal plan for free! Couldn't beat that. We each had two meals and two snacks a day. We made reservations for some dining before we left at some of the places we wanted to eat at. Have fun!

  • on the cheap?....good luck

eat before you go in and take snacks in your bag or purse and don't sped too much on stuff in the shops
don't stay at a hotel too closeby- maybe a little further away would be cheaper
