Freedom of speech and fair elections in ME and North African countries

I believe that these two things will improve everything from personal freedoms, equality for women, and the safety of the US's interests if these goals were obtained. While we will no doubt suffer if gas prices rise, the future stability of these countries will improve everything from trade relations to human rights, ultimately improving things for everyone. Corrupt dictators are NOT stable. What keeps a country stable is everyone having a voice. What is your opinion?

  • When you give a 16 yr old boy a new camaro, they drive it around 100 mph and likely crash. No experience.
Give millions of people some freedoms quickly they've never had, and they will likely crash too. No experience.

  • ITA agree Stacy. Change is constant and just because problems arise does mean you do not move forward. You deal. People should be able to lead their lives in the manner in which they choose, as long as they do not hurt others in the process. Many kids get their DL's at 16, despite the fact that it's dangerous and they lack experience. They learn as they go and MOST do not end up dead or killing another during that learning period- Freedom does involve risk-

Agreed. For this reason, I think we need to focus on our own UNstable economy-

Stable like Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, and Yemen? I, too have heard this argument that dictatorships are stable. But it seems they are overthrown with regularity. Maybe with the advent of new social media and the internet increasing communication, these old ideas don't stand up anymore
