  • Not unless a doctor says it's a medical necessity and even then he may have to get approval. Surgeries like that are ususally considered optional and cosmetic - therefore the insurance companies will not cover them.

  • medical insurance only covers things that are a health concern or could potentially be a health concern. Tummy tucks are not considers a health risk or concern.

  • I worked for health ins companies for 7 years. Blueshield is usually an employer-based health ins program. What most people don't know about those types of plans is that your employer determines what is/is not covered. As far as tummy tucks go, I have seen them covered and considered to be medically necessary in instances of dramatic weight los ie:100lbs or so. In these cases the skin folds on top of itself, stays moist and becomes a breeding ground for bacteria and infections. Breakdown of the skin can also occur. If this is something similar to your case it will take a lot of work on your part in getting all of the documentation (that is your resp) and submitting it for approval to your ins co. It make take several tries. Good luck!
