How long would you wait?

My son has Strep Throat right now. He started taking an antibiotic about 24 hours ago. I went on WebMD and it said that someone with Strep is no longer contagious after 24 hours of antibiotics. He said he is feeling better. I'm just not sure when I should send him back to school. Should I send him tomorrow and see how he feels and pick him up if he's still not feeling great or just wait another day

  • I have strep now too. I'd say 24 hours after he has no fever he should be ready to go back to school.

  • If nothing else, you can call the school and ask their policy on this sort of thing. Glad he's feeling better. Strep is certainly the pits!

  • Schools generally want you to wait 24 hours after symptoms end. So if he was feeling bad at all today, I would keep him out another day, just to be safe.

  • Ask him how he is feeling and if he thinks hes up to go to school or not.

  • I usually keep them out another day after they start feeling better. My reason is--I don't want to my kids to wear out and have a relapse of anything. School can take a lot out of a child. I'd rather send them back when they are well on the way to being on the mend--that way they bounce back faster.
