  • Our 14 yr old has to have lights out at 9:30pm. He's up by 6:30am so he has to be in bed at a decent hour during the week.

  • Teens need a lot of sleep, but also need to learn to take responsiblity for that...it's hard to say...around 10 if he/she needs to get up by six seems reasonable to me.

  • It depends on the child. I never had a bedtime. I was told I had to be in my room and not making any noise by 11 so that I wouldnt keep others in the house awake but I could stay up in my room until whatever time I wanted. I was punished if my grades slipped or if I was disrespectful from lack of sleep but how much I slept was still up to me. I learned to manage my time pretty well.

On the other hand, they tried that rule with my now 15 year old brother and he would stay up all night on the phone or online. I think they have him going to bed by 12 or 1 now.
