  • Amino? Do you mean amnio? You don't need to have that done unless you suspect complications or you're checking for lung maturity. I had one done at 36 weeks.
The nasty drink test is to test for gestational diabetes. It's basically just sugar water.

  • You don't have to take that test. It's only if you want to know if your baby might have Downs. If you don't have any history of that, then don't worry about it, and tell your doctor you don't want to take the test. They can't make you.
The nasty drink is a glucose test to see if you have gestational diabetes. The drink itself doesn't do anything to the baby.

  • They wont make you take an amnio. I didnt b/c I was scared of it. The nasty drink test is a glucose test and it does not hurt the baby. Get the one that is clear not orange, it just tastes like flat 7 up

  • Nobody can ever MAKE you take a test. It is called informed consent. You don't have to do anything just because it was recommended. But you do need to learn to make decisions based on rational thought and evidence based medicine. If you just freak out all the time they could declare you incompetent. It is time to calm down and be the person in charge. You are about to be a mother. Time to grow up.

She already told you that most amnio's are to check for Downs syndrome. So if you don't have Downs in your family and you aren't over 35 they shouldn't even be recommending the test.   Or lung maturity if you go into early labor.  It isn't a routine test.

  • Usually they won't suggest that you get an amnio unless you are a "high risk" pregnancy. But no one can make you take any test that you don't want to take.

  • As far as it "checking" for Downs Syndrome...it is VERY inaccurate. I wouldn't have it done personally.
