Was your toddler most interested in numbers or letters first?

My daughter was definitely drawn to numbers, patterns, money, etc. before showing a real grasp of letters (even though she loved listening to stories).

  • It's been different for all my kids (I have 6). My girls have seemed drawn more to numbers first and my son to letters. I don't know why - maybe just the differences in who they are. My son did count before learning his alphabet but was much quicker to recognize written letters than numbers.

  • Difficult answer...maybe my son's not old enough yet. He can recite the alphabet, and 1-10, but he only recognises a few numbers and letters. I don't really know which one he knows more of. He loves to count steps, but then again we'll be in the car and he'll say "ABCD mommy?" when he wants to sing the alphabet song. I think it's about 50/50.
