Can a 3 year old be nearsighted without having had some sort of previous eye problem?

  • Yup. my husband has been wearing glasses since he was under 5. I like to say he came out of the womb wearing them

  • Absolutely. I once nannied for a child that started wearing glasses at 8 months old. Whether or not you are nearsighted or farsighted has more to do with genetics than age.

  • I wondered if we'd deal with this because both my husband and I are severely nearsighted with astigmatism but our eye doctor said she'll probably follow our progression which was starting sometime around 6 or 7. If you have any concerns at all, don't wait. Make the appointment and visit the eye doctor. Nearsightedness can absolutely develop at any age.
