  • In the bible, Jesus washed his disciples' feet-he wanted them to learn that even the master could be a servant. Not one was more important than the other. Think about it, in their days, walking was the mode of transportation-washing their feet was also a sign of caring and respect. That is the symbolic meaning behind the ritual today-respect, caring, and as a lessen to Christians about being true servants of the Lord.

  • It was a welcome and hospitable act.Especially was it a display of humility and affectionate regard for guests if the host or hostess personally washed the visitors feet. In the case of the woman Mary and her sister Martha who were in the village of Lazarus when Jesus came to be with him knowing hewas sick.
(John 11:1,2)Jesus washing the feet of his apostles was a lesson in humility and willingness to serve one another in the humblest way. ( That evening, the apostles once again got into an argument over who was greater) Jesus thus showed that each one should be a servant of another and show love in practical ways, doing things for the comfort of others. The Christian Greek scriptures do not list formal washing of feet as a required Christian ceremony. yet the example he set stands as a reminder to Christians to serve their brothers lovingly, even in small ways.( John 13:34,35)

  • yes, i believe that this was to show his deciples a valuable lesson and example that we must be humble, meek, and we are here to serve one another, it doesnt matter what status you may have, or how smart you may be, or how rich$ you may be, we are here on this earth to serve one another, by choice, not by force, by doing it in good cheer, or hapily because you want to help, and not because some one had to coax you, serve one another in love-even if its hard work, muddy work,
