Baby fell and has huge knot!! can he go to sleep 30 mins after

My son fell and hit his head on the end of the couch and a quarter size knot came up on the top of his forehed. It has been about 30 minutes and he fell asleep with his bottle. Should I let him sleep?

He only cried for about three minutes and was acting okay afterwards....

  • I was told by a doctor that if a child hits their head to keep them up for 2 hours

  • I would wake him up periodically and try to NOT let him sleep for a bit for the risk of Concussion and/or Coma.
Apply an ice pack or frozen veggie pack if you don't have an ice pack.
Good Luck...if u still are worried go see your ped.

  • My pedi and an ER dr told me it was fine for baby to sleep after hitting their head as long as bump goes out and not in. All drs have different opinions.

  • Have you called an advice nurse? I'm sure he'll be ok just check up on him.

  • He's awake now (: he seemed to not be comfortable (kept tossing and turning) so I turned the light on to look at his eyes and he woke up. Thanks for all your answers. I think he's fine. He hits his head a lot :/ but has never actually had a knot this big!

  • When my DD was 8 months she did a similar thing and had huge knot on her temple and it worried me so I called the pediatrician who said that old rule of not letting them sleep after head boo-boo was an old wive's tale and that it was fine to allow her to sleep as long as after 2 hours I could wake her fairly easily. If I couldn't wake her, give her another hour and try again. If I still had trouble waking her, then take her to ER.

  • Forgot to say that she also said if they wake up on their own after 30 minutes or more, then they are fine, too. Just maybe give him some infant ibuprofen or tylenol for the headache he prob has and some serious loving. :)
