As in a previous post I asked what desserts to make for a birthday gathering...do you have any suggestions as far as a wine to pair with them? I'm not a wine connoisseur but would like to have some on hand that is generally well liked.
Depends on the dessert in question. You want to make sure the dessert isn't sweeter than the wine otherwise the wine will taste sour. Chocolate? Think Port. Fruit? Try a sweet Muscat. A spatelaese Reisling is a good choice with custards and fruit too. Anything further than that would have to wait until I get home as my copy of What to Eat With What You Drink (awesome book!) is there and not in my classroom. lol

The link shows a good article. Some of these wines are expensive but it at least discusses the different types. I have had muscato and it is heavenly.

Champagne. This is a great, low cost option: http://www.gruetwinery.com/_product_46659/Gruet_Blanc_de_Noirs
