What do i need to get a new social security card?

i tried calling the social security administration out here and they haven't been answering. i wanted to know before i drive all the way out there. do i need my birth cirtificate? cause i don't have it. and can i get one on the spot if i go up there and have what i need or is it going to take a while?

  • if you go online to ssa.gov you can actually print out the application and mail it in along with the documents. however, you do need to mail in the originals or certified copies of all the documents (including your actual drivers license) so keep that in mind. and it lists all the necessary documents for obtaining a new card.

  • You just need an ID. They will give you a letter stating that you have requested a new card which should work for anything that you need for now. They will mail you your card I want to say it took me a week to get mine.

  • Try checking out the info online. They will need proof that you are who you are. Most businesses accept your drivers license. If they require more than one item as proof, maybe you could use your marriage license, if you have one. Good luck.
