If both your walls needed painting and your carpet needed to be professionally shampooed, which would you do 1st? How much time would you wait in between.

I do have small children in the house as well if that makes a difference.

  • ALWAYS do the floor last. It's likely to get soiled during work...and if paint spilled across the carpet for some reason, you'd probably be replacing the whole thing anyway.

  • I'd paint first. Especially if you are hiring people, or in case you splatter paint on your carpet.

  • Paint first then carpets. I would a couple of days for the paint to dry completely in case someone or something bumps the walls while the cleaning is happening.

  • The "Rule" is to work from the highest level to the lower, cause the other way round you'll have to clean your carpet again.
It's so much fun to paint the house... With great colours, you can have super wow results....

  • Carpets - Not sure how long I would wait between the two.

  • Id paint first, the do the carpets. I would try and do them all in one swoop or weekend if I could.

  • Paint first. If you clean the carpet first and make a mess while painting then you cleaned the carpet for nothing. I would clean the carpet as soon as possible after painting. Get it all clean and fresh!
