  • it was different with all 3 of my kids. my 26 month old is really just now talking alot. she was a little delayed at first and then overnight around 22 months the words came out of her like a waterfall! my 13 month old talks almost as much as my 26 month old can now. she is super smart and she will even answer Dora on TV with map and backpack. she can point them out when she sees them. and my oldest, now 4, was using a lot of words around 15 months.

  • kylansmommy . . . i wouldn't really worry about it . . .not unless your baby is two and still having trouble. Kids reach some of these cognitive milestones on their own schedule. Some kids talk early, walk late. Socialize early, talk late. Learn the alphabet early, jump late. Most of the time, it all evens out sometime around 5.

Your child is probably busy mastering some other cognitive genius right now!!!!

  • My daughter is 18 months and is talking up a storm. I think a lot has to do with the fact that she has an older brother who is a talker too.

  • I would say at 22 months he really started talking. Remember boys tend to take a bit longer to talk! Don't worry!

  • 11 months he was talking, by 2 he was forming 2-3 words sentences. But he's always been ahead cognitively and behind socially. So while he hit all the language milestones really early, he didn't hit the play ones. He's 5 and still doesn't like to play with groups, he prefers independent play or 1:1, which is not the level experts say he should be on. But, he's always been an only child, and very independent, and mainly he doesn't like large groups because he wants to boss everyone and they won't let him. Everyone develops at their own pace, if he's making attempts to form words and babbling I wouldn't worry. By 24 months he really should be saying at least 10 words, if not then a speech evaluation might be necessary. But until then don't give any worry notion two thoughts, many children speak little at 22 months and at 23 months suddenly know close to 50 words.
